Section A Week 47

Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national symbol of the USA instead of the eagle. Franklin appreciated that the turkey is native to the USA and was a great source of food for early settlers. The turkey is also resourceful in foraging for food. The gobble call of the turkey can be heard a mile away. The male turkey has a beautiful spread of tail feathers. The female turkey is plain in comparison. One student suggested that Mrs. Turkey should go shopping for some fancy clothes, because she wants to look as fancy as the male. When she is gone too long, Mr. Turkey gobbles to call her home. But the female settles for being classy. Benjamin Franklin had to settle for the turkey as the bird of Thanksgiving. Gobble, gobble.
