YOUR ART CLASS HAS A SWEET CHRISTMAS
Candy canes are delightfully sweet Christmas treats. Although mint candy sticks had been around for a while, the curved handle to represent the shepherds' staff, is credited to a choir director in Germany around 1670. He wanted to keep the young boys in the choir quiet, so he had a local candymaker make these treats for the boys. The peppermint stripe was added later. Then people started to decorate trees with them. Now candy canes are part of Christmas celebrations all over the world and we all have some noisy choir boys to thank.
