Your Art Class Grows Poinsettias

The first USA good-will minister to Mexico in the 1820’s was Joel Roberts Poinsett. When he returned to the US he brought back from Central America the plant with the beautiful red flowers for Christmas. The plant became popular and was called a Poinsettia after the minister. The pretty red flower is actually leaves and growers use “photoperiodism” to create the many different color varieties that are grown today. The poinsettia is still very popular with about 100 million plants sold at Christmastime. Your Art Class can create your own variety of Poinsettia.
