Your Art Class Travels to St. Basil's Cathedral

The Church of Intercession of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat Pokrovsky Cathedral is also called St. Basil’s Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed. It is the Orthodox Church in Red Square of Moscow and is a popular tourist destination. St Basil’s was built during the reign of Ivan the Terrible from 1555 to 1561. It features 9 multi colored domes of different sizes, including two spires. The domes are commonly called onion domes because their shape looks like onions. The domes are said to be a mix of Byzantine and Asian architecture and design. Many cathedrals and churches in Eastern Europe and Russia have golden onion domes.
