The first steam locomotive train patent was obtained by Englishmen Richard Trevithick and Andrew Vivian in 1802 and it was used in Wales. An electric train engine powered by batteries was used in Aberdeen, Scotland. A diesel powered internal combustion engine came about in 1888. General Electric engineer, Herman Lemp came up with direct current electrical controls for trains in 1914. Trains were the way to carry people and goods. There are many different types of trains. Model trains became big hobbies for children and adults alike. They capture the imagination because they are powerful, travel through the scenic countryside as well as the bustling cities.
