Your Art Class Weaves a Basket


The art of weaving baskets is a tradition that has been handed down in most cultures. Using plant materials such as grasses, straw, pine needles, bark, bamboo, reeds, vines, and branches to weave baskets is a unique folk art. Often a group will participate and join together in song. Folk songs have also been handed down in most cultures. The Vaughn Williams Memorial Library in London, England houses a vast collection of folk songs from around the world. Steve Round, a former librarian spent SO years indexing folk songs because most folk songs are handed down in song and not recorded. Your Art Class can weave your own basket and even makeup your own song. Get folksy!
