Series D Week 25
Your Art Class Swims in the Stars
Starfish from the sea are unique and interesting. There are over 2,000 different species of starfish, or sea stars, which are echinoderms that belong to the class Asteroidea. A group of starfish are called asteroids and stars in the sky are called asteroids. That's where the similarity ends. Starfish are invertebrates of the animal kingdom with no backbone and their echinoderm, or skin, gives them their shape. They are related to sea urchins and sand dollars. Most sand dollars have five arms, but some have more. Along the bottom of the arms are little tubes that are used for moving. When an arm comes off it can regenerate. A starfish can live for 35 years. Your Art Class can create a starfish collection.
